I think I have a date!
Some of you may know that I've spent the past few months in a holding pattern - I can't buy a ticket until I know when I'll get a visa, and I can't get a visa until I have a ticket. The last stubborn puzzle piece was a police clearance certificate from the FBI. After months of waiting, I finally heard from them! Assuming the actual paper I need comes in the mail this week, as expected, I will be flying out of the country on April 3, 2012.
WHICH IS SO SOON!
I am obviously not completely ready, but I know that I just want to jump in!! I have had so much time to prepare myself, to be intentional in relationships, and to better understand my weaknesses. I am so excited and ready to go start learning how to serve God in the context of Cape Town.
The last things I have to work out (and for which I would LOVE your prayer):
1) Getting a visa. (which requires mostly just their approval. I have or will have all of the papers that I need by the end of this week)
2) Wisdom in packing
3) Saying goodbye to family and friends
4) Raising the last $200 a month (or $2400) that I need to reach my target
5) All the things that I don't even realize I'm going to run into
And then there's always culture shock, the million things I have to set up when I get there (like finding housing, buying a car, learning the lay of the land, setting up phones), adjusting to a new job, and making a bazillion new friends (some of whom have names that I literally cannot pronounce. Yikes.
It looks like I can use a lot of prayer.
And if you
