The time has finally come! It is hard to believe that, Lord willing, a week from now I'll be stepping off a plane in South Africa!
Provided my visa arrives as scheduled (pray now!), I will be flying out of Dulles on Tuesday evening (4/24). I am really grateful to God for His timing in my departure. While I still don't quite understand the delay, I have found reasons to be glad. My favorite old lady friend, grandma Billie, passed away on Easter. It was a blessing to be able to be here to celebrate her life. I am going to be able to be in town for my friend MaryPat's wedding. This is a double blessing - both in being able to enjoy her wedding and in getting to spend a weekend with all of my family in one place before I head out!
Please be praying for me as I finish up my preparations. My dad asked me what he could be praying for, and as I sat down to write out a list I realized that while I am prepared and excited, I am also quite overwhelmed by the details that I cannot control. Pray that God continues to be my refuge during this period of change and uncertainty. Pray that I make some fast friends and find some close friendship there rather than just rely on all my current friends who are just one click away. Balancing the access to technology (and thus America) with a desire to be focused and invested where I am is sure to be a challenge. And please pray that I use the remaining time I have here in a way that honors God, deepens relationships, and
I am so excited about arriving and beginning what God has planned in this next chapter. Thanks for checking in, praying for me, and supporting me in this! I can't wait to update you from across the Atlantic!
